Illness perception
An individual’s cognitive appraisal and personal understanding of a medical condition and its potential consequences. Illness perception focuses on how one experiences and mentally frames living with a disease. This may include both positive and negative illness beliefs that can influence the ability to cope with the disease and to perceive it as manageable or threatening.
